"Performance Rockin' the Fillmore"の発表前に、Peterが脱退。替わりにDave "Clem" Clemsonが加入。ライブ開始前に、新しいギタリストが加入したことをSteveが話しています。
メンバー交代によりSteveが目指し始めていたハードソウルへ変換し始めた時期の貴重なライブです。
翌年の3月に発売される"Smokin' "からの曲が多く演奏されています。前年のライブとの違いは多々ありますが、Steveのボーカルが一番顕著です。コーラス時のみハイピッチだったのが、リードボーカルでもハイピッチの声を聞かせてくれます。だからなのか、それまで重めのリズムだったのが、すこし前ノリのように感じます。
また曲紹介も独立した歌のように、歌い上げるようになっています。
"I Wonder"から音質が少し良くなります。この曲は非常に素晴らしい。Daveのギター、Steveのボーカル。リズム隊。全てが素晴らしいです。
"Sweet Peace and Time"でSteveとDaveのギターが綺麗に左右に聴こえることからも、非常に聴きやすい音質です。ほんの少しベースの音がはっきりしないけれど、時代を考えれば十分な音質です。
"Rollin'Stone"で一部分、右チャンネルに音が片寄るのとギャップがあるのが残念…。しかしながらSteveと観客との掛け合いはライブの興奮を十二分に感じ、聴いていて楽しいです。ぜひともその場に居たかった。そんなことを思い起こさせる瞬間である。
アンコールの大きさからも観客をの満足度が高いのがうかがい知れます。
Dave "Clem" Clemsonが加入したことにより、Steveのギターの負担が減った分、ボーカルに力をいれることができるようになったのかもしれません。前年までの民主的なバンドからSteveが先頭を切って、ハードソウルに向かって走りはじめたバンドの瞬間がわかるライブです。
なんとこの日のライブがオフィシャルでリリースされました。下記にもあるとおり、オリジナルテープからピッチが6%ほど下げられたモノが出回っていますが、オフィシャルでリリースされたのはオリジナルテープのピッチです。

after more research this show is 12/3/71 not 12/31/71
speed corrected (minus 6.1 percent). also addded 1 DB volume and seperated out Steves opening intro and closing outro.
there were 4 sec. gaps between all tracks...tried to close those up too.
otherwise nothing else changed (no EQ etc.).

If you've got Rockin'The Fillmore go straight
to track 8 for an alternative version of Rollin'
Stone - 18 mins worth.
It's the best sounding track too.

This show was SO GOOD , i HAD to speed correct it.
i never heard a live version of I Wonder before, and its killer!
a great companion piece to "Rockin' the Fillmore", one of the top 5 live LPs of all time... IMO!.
